BUILDING CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND TERMINOLOGY

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) format for divisions of work is a standard used in the building and architectural trades. It is used in the construction industry for organizing and categorizing building materials, products, and finishes. The format is used in construction specifications and estimating, and is organized in a logical progression of construction.

Catalog cuts and Internet web pages have replaced the traditional brochures used to learn about new building products, but the AIA format for divisions of work remains an industry standard.
